I wrote about the NYPD&#8217;s Cold Case Squad because I&#8217;ve always been drawn to the forgotten, but to be murdered <em>and<\/em> forgotten was inacceptable.  As I say in the preface to my book, &#8220;People get sick, accidents happen, but we\u2019re still in the realm of what we have to swallow and can.  We\u2019ll complain to the universe about it but we don\u2019t expect an answer.  But someone gunning for us?  We have so little time to begin with, and must contend with so many other possible bad endings and now this?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>My most recent book is <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ISBN=1616200413\/echonewyorkcitysA\">Imperfect Harmony: Finding Happiness Singing With Others<\/a><\/em> (Algonquin Books, 2014).<\/p>\n<p>I am also a very occasional contributor to the NPR show, <em>All Things Considered<\/em>. When this book first came out I did a commentary about cold cases which you can listen to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/templates\/player\/mediaPlayer.html?action=1&amp;t=1&amp;islist=false&amp;id=4804392&amp;m=4804393\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Also, the former commanding officer Vito Spano and I were interviewed on The Leonard Lopate show. You can listen to that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wnyc.org\/shows\/lopate\/episodes\/2005\/07\/19\/segments\/49571\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In 1990, I founded Echo, a NYC-based online\u00a0service where people log in everyday\u00a0to talk about work, love, how hard life can be, and what&#8217;s on TV.
