The New York Public Library has had a searchable <a href=\"http:\/\/digitalgallery.nypl.org\/nypldigital\/index.cfm\">database of images<\/a> for years, but it&#8217;s exciting to have a new resource of new images.  <\/p>\n<p>The MCNY is still getting the kinks out, but I did a search on the word &#8220;murder&#8221; and these images came up.  The pictures were taken by Jacob A. Riis in 1895.<\/p>\n<p>The caption for this one reads:  <em>Bottle Alley Mulberry Bend in its worst days, picture used as evidence in murder case\u2014cross on stairs shows where murderer stood and did shooting.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.therestlesssleep.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/bottlealley3.jpg\" alt=\"bottlealley3\" title=\"bottlealley3\" width=\"372\" height=\"281\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-995\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The caption for the one below reads:  <em>Bottle Alley Mulberry Bend, X shows where the victim stood when shot.<\/em>  It&#8217;s hard to see the X, but it&#8217;s on the bottom of the staircase to the right.  <\/p>\n<p>There was also a few words handwritten along the top one:  <em>Headquarters of the Wbyo Gang<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.therestlesssleep.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/bottle.jpg\" alt=\"bottle\" title=\"bottle\" width=\"385\" height=\"281\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-996\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Museum of the City of New York recently made a collection of digitized images available online.
